The Radiation Oncologist will diagnose, plan, and administer radiation therapy for patients with cancer and certain non-cancerous conditions. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary cancer care, ensuring safe and effective treatment delivery, and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Duties:
- Conduct comprehensive examinations of patients referred for radiation therapy.
- Diagnose and evaluate oncologic conditions requiring radiation treatment.
- Develop individualized radiation treatment plans in collaboration with medical physicists and dosimetrists.
- Prescribe and supervise radiation therapy procedures, including external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and stereotactic treatments.
- Monitor patients throughout treatment and manage radiation-related side effects and complications.
- Coordinate care with medical oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and other healthcare professional.
- Provide palliative radiation treatment when indicated to improve patient quality of life.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety regulations and institutional protocols.
- Collaborate with radiation therapists, medical physicists, and oncology nursing staff to ensure quality patient care.
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives within the oncology department.
Educational Duties:
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, expected outcomes, and potential side effects.
- Provide guidance on cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship care.
- Stay updated with advancements in radiation oncology through continuous professional development and research activities.
