The ICU/Critical Care Specialist will provide specialized care for critically ill patients with life-threatening conditions. This role involves advanced monitoring, diagnosis, treatment, and coordination of multidisciplinary care to optimize patient outcomes in the intensive care setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Duties:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
  • Provide advanced life support and critical care interventions for patients with respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, trauma, organ failure, and other complex conditions.
  • Perform and supervise critical care procedures, including endotracheal intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, and mechanical ventilation management.
  • Interpret laboratory results, imaging studies, and hemodynamic monitoring data.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, internists, and other specialists.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and participate in rapid response and code blue teams.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and ensure continuity of care throughout ICU admission.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and critical care documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, infection prevention measures, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement and clinical audit activities.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and allied health professionals to optimize patient care and resource utilization.

Educational Duties:

  • Educate patients' families regarding critical illness, treatment plans, prognosis, and expected outcomes.
  • Mentor junior physicians, residents, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Stay updated with advancements in critical care medicine through continuous professional development.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Specialization in Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Anesthesiology with Critical Care Training, or Internal Medicine with Critical Care Fellowship.
  • Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience in Critical Care Medicine.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in advanced life support and critical care procedures.
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage emergencies.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
