The Neurosurgeon will specialize in the surgical treatment of disorders affecting the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. This highly specialized role involves complex surgical procedures for trauma, tumors, vascular malformations, and degenerative conditions, demanding precision and critical judgment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Duties:

  • Evaluate patients requiring neurosurgical intervention through clinical assessment, neurological examinations, and advanced imaging interpretation.

Diagnose and surgically treat a wide range of neurological conditions, including brain and spinal tumors, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, spinal cord injuries, degenerative disc diseases, and hydrocephalus.

  • Perform complex neurosurgical procedures using advanced techniques and equipment.
  • Provide comprehensive pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care, including critical care management.
  • Manage complications related to neurosurgery.
  • Collaborate with neurologists, intensivists, radiologists, and rehabilitation specialists for multidisciplinary patient care.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain meticulous surgical and patient records.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (e.g., tumor boards) to discuss complex neurological cases.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of neurosurgical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.

Educational Duties:

  • Educate patients and their families about complex neurosurgical procedures, risks, and recovery processes.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in neurosurgery techniques and technologies.

Requirements & Qualifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Specialization in Neurosurgery.
  • Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience in neurosurgical practice.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
