The Oncologist will specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer. This role involves providing comprehensive cancer care, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and palliative care, coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Duties:

  • Diagnose various types of cancer through clinical evaluation, biopsy interpretation, and imaging studies.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for cancer patients, considering stage, type, and patient preferences.
  • Administer chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, monitoring for efficacy and managing side effects.
  • Provide comprehensive supportive care, including pain management, nutritional support, and psychological support.
  • Collaborate with surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and other specialists in multidisciplinary tumor boards.
  • Offer genetic counseling for cancer predisposition when appropriate.
  • Provide palliative and end-of-life care, focusing on improving quality of life.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient cancer treatment records.
  • Participate in clinical trials and research initiatives to advance cancer treatment, if applicable.
  • Contribute to the development of oncology treatment protocols and guidelines.

Educational Duties:

  • Educate patients and their families about cancer diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, and prognosis.
  • Mentor junior medical staff and students on oncology principles and patient management.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in cancer research and treatment modalities.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Specialization in Medical Oncology.
  • Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience as an Oncologist.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of cancer biology, pharmacology, and treatment regimens.
  • Empathy, excellent communication skills, and ability to manage complex cases.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
