The Body/Abdominal Radiologist will specialize in the imaging diagnosis and evaluation of diseases affecting the abdominal and pelvic organs, including the gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, genitourinary, reproductive, and related systems. The role involves interpreting diagnostic imaging studies, performing image-guided procedures, and collaborating with multidisciplinary clinical teams to provide accurate diagnoses and support effective patient management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Duties:

  • Evaluate patients through diagnostic imaging studies including ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluoroscopy, and conventional radiography of the abdomen and pelvis.
  • Diagnose and report a wide range of conditions affecting the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive organs, and other abdominal and pelvic structures.
  • Perform and interpret specialized body imaging examinations, including contrast-enhanced studies and advanced imaging protocols.
  • Perform image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as biopsies, drainages, aspirations, and catheter placements within the scope of practice.
  • Provide timely and accurate radiology reports to support clinical decision-making and treatment planning.
  • Collaborate closely with gastroenterologists, hepatologists, surgeons, oncologists, nephrologists, urologists, gynecologists, and other specialists in patient management.
  • Participate in the evaluation and management of emergency abdominal and pelvic conditions through rapid imaging interpretation and consultation.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely radiological records and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards, imaging protocols, infection prevention measures, and quality assurance programs.
  • Collaborate with radiology technologists and other healthcare professionals to optimize imaging quality and patient care.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, clinical audits, multidisciplinary case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives related to body imaging services.

Educational Duties:

  • Educate patients and their families regarding imaging procedures, findings, and recommended follow-up investigations when appropriate.
  • Mentor radiology residents, medical students, and junior healthcare professionals in body imaging principles and practices.
  • Conduct and participate in clinical conferences, tumor boards, multidisciplinary team meetings, and continuing medical education activities.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to remain updated with advancements in body imaging techniques, technologies, and evidence-based practices.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Specialization in Radiology with fellowship training or demonstrated expertise in Body/Abdominal Radiology.
  • Valid professional license by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) or equivalent regulatory body in Ethiopia
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable post-specialization experience in body/abdominal imaging practice.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong expertise in the interpretation of abdominal and pelvic imaging studies, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and conventional radiography.
  • Experience in performing image-guided abdominal and pelvic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
